5 Common Pressure Washing Mistakes

5 Common Pressure Washing Mistakes You Should Avoid

It's that time of year again: to look at doing outdoor remodeling and repairs. Here are the top five common pressure washing mistakes you should avoid.

Overindulgence of pressure

One of the most common mistakes homeowners make when pressure washing their home is to have too high of pressure. When the water is over pressurized, it can cause all kinds of problems. Too high of pressure can cause you to gouge out areas of your wood decking or carve lines into your siding. Once there is damage to the siding or wood deck, moisture can occur, and both wood rot and mildew can accumulate. It is important to know when to call in the professionals, and if you are in doubt about how much pressure to use, please call us to assist you with this task.

Lack of knowledge

If you have never performed pressure washing and are trying it for the first time, you need to be very careful about what you are undertaking. Damage can occur from multiple items when performing power washing, including damage to windows, the lawn, siding, and the deck. If you lack the knowledge regarding power washing your home or have doubts once you begin, please stop and give us a call.

Forgetting to clean the driveway

Another common mistake that individuals experience when pressure washing is forgetting to power wash the driveway. Your path collects contaminants such as algae and oil stains that, if left untreated, can cause the driveway to start to crack and eventually deteriorate. Make sure you remember to power wash your driveway when you are washing the home's exterior.

Using only water to clean

If you are power washing your home, make sure you have a pressure washer that has the solution as well as water in it. Some machines only come with water, and if you use only water to clean your home's exterior, it won't last as long, and you will have to do it more often. If that isn't bad enough, water only mixtures spread mold spores over the entirety of your home setting you up for problems down the road.

Not having a plan

The last mistake that is common to people cleaning the exterior of their home is repeat work. If you do not have a plan on what you are going to clean first, second, third when you are pressure washing, you will end up causing yourself more work. Make sure to clean in the correct order; do windows last, or else they will end up with debris and residue from the washing solution of the siding, and you will have to redo all your hard work on the windows!
