Allergy Proof Your Home

With spring here, you and your family members may be experiencing the deep frustration that comes with flared allergies. It can turn what should be a cheerful time of year into a miserable one, as your eyes, nose, and skin begin to turn against you, coming under attack from the environment around you.

Allergies are caused by your immune system mistaking an otherwise harmless substance as being a threat, and turns on all the normal reactions you would have to some kind of infection. This can be caused by a number of factors such as genetics or overexposure to a substance, such as wheat gluten or peanut oils. Spring seasonal allergies are usually caused by exposure to pollen released by plants, dust mites, or animal dander, usually kicked up by changes in behavior that come from spring. This is the time of year when plants will begin to begin to grow, and some plants will begin to bloom and release pollen. This continues throughout the summer into fall as different plants flower at different times. Some hibernating animals become more active and release dander into the environment. Household pets that have been kept inside are let out and begin to shed their winter coats. Finally, dust gets kicked up around the house as windows are left open and spring cleaning begins shifting dust around and casting it into the atmosphere.

As a gutter cleaning company in Greater Cincinnati, we have seen first hand how the pollen and mold on this area can build up on homes and office buildings. Cleaning can be a crucial practice in reducing the impact of these allergies in your home. There are several steps we recommend to minimize allergens in and around your home.

When dusting, it’s crucial that you use a vacuum, wet rag, or other method that captures the dust rather than just casting it off into the air.

Washing bedding and cleaning furniture can also help keep allergens from building up on surfaces that are likely to come into contact with your skin.

If you have pets in the house, make sure they are brushed regularly, and get a full trim of their winter coat with a good washing. Again, make sure when brushing that you collect the hair for disposal or brush them outside.

Cleaning your gutters to make sure that plant particulates aren’t allowed to build up in places where it’s easy for them to drift into your home through open windows. Clogged gutters in particular can create a risk for standing water, and mold and mildew on your walls or siding all create opportunity for allergens to be exacerbated around your home.

If allergies are making you miserable, give us a call.  We can't take away your allergies, but we can take away some of the triggers.  Call today to schedule a cleaning appointment or to get a no hassle quote!
